IIMPACT for Teens is open to girls, nonbinary, & LGBTQ youth (ages 12-15).
More information on gender inclusivity at IMPACT Chicago is available HERE.

IMPACT for Teens includes:
  • Frank, direct discussions about the situations teens might face.
  • Verbal skills that give participants the opportunity to practice standing up for themselves firmly and assertively when faced with unwanted interactions.
  • Physical self-defense skills taught in a supportive, success-based class.  Participants have the opportunity to practice in simulated scenarios with a padded mock assailant and a personal coach, allowing the skills to pattern into their bodies so that they can use them even when frightened or startled.

IMPACT for Teens' participants will increase their:
  • Self-assurance when walking alone
  • Ability to figure out what to say or do when uncomfortable
  • Skills in communicating effectively
  • Physical and verbal confidence

What previous participants say:
"I am walking out of this IMPACT class, inspired and ready to take on the world. No longer do I doubt my ability to defend myself."
"It was very fun, and now I'm more confident."
"This class is amazing! Every teen should take this class. I am so much more confident now than I ever was."

What are the physical and emotional well-being requirements to take an IMPACT program?
  • If you have a temporary injury or condition, such as pregnancy, healing from surgery, or a sprained limb, wait to take the class until you no longer have this injury or condition.
  • If you have a chronic condition, please let us know about it and we will work with you (and in consultation with your health professional) to make it possible for you to take the course. We encourage you to register.
  • If you have been sexually assaulted, consider waiting 6-12 months before taking an IMPACT course. A good wait time depends of course on you and your situation, so please talk to us about what will work for you.
