IMPACT Chicago Suited Instructor
Job Description & Preliminary Application

Become a Suited Instructor with IMPACT Chicago: Step Into the Role That Empowers Change
Please read the following prior to accessing the application link at the bottom of the page.

What Is IMPACT?
IMPACT is a nationally-recognized, trauma-informed self-defense program that empowers people - especially women and other vulnerable groups - to set boundaries and protect themselves physically, emotionally, and verbally. Our unique approach uses full-force, scenario-based training with instructors in padded armor, providing a realistic, safe space to learn and grow.

The Role of the Suited Instructor
As a suited instructor (also known as a mock aggressor), you are the living simulation of a real-life threat - and a powerful part of someone’s transformation.

You Will:
  • Wear a full-body padded suit that allows students to strike with full force - punches, kicks, knees, elbows - with complete safety.
  • Simulate realistic attacks in controlled, emotionally safe scenarios, allowing students to apply verbal and physical defense techniques under stress.
  • Work as part of a team - supporting lead instructors and adapting to student needs in real time.
  • Help create a supportive environment where students can confront fear, push through freeze/flail responses, and reclaim their power.
  • Debrief with empathy - guiding students through what they felt and how they succeeded.

Who We're Looking For
We’re seeking individuals who are:
  • Physically fit and coachable - you don’t need martial arts training, but you must be able to safely absorb impact and follow precise movement cues.
  • Emotionally intelligent - you’ll interact with students who may be survivors of trauma. Compassion and calm under pressure are essential.
  • Team-oriented and mission-driven - this is collaborative work that demands care, presence, and purpose.
  • Willing to train rigorously - you’ll complete specialized training (typically 60-80 hours) to master the art of safe, effective scenario delivery.

Why Join the IMPACT Chicago Team?
  • You’ll change lives - directly.
  • You’ll gain tools for your own personal strength and emotional resilience.
  • You’ll join a community committed to empowerment, safety, and justice.
  • You’ll be part of a cutting-edge, evidence-informed program respected worldwide.

Ready to Suit Up?
Students walk into class unsure, anxious, sometimes afraid. They walk out with unshakable confidence and a felt sense of power - because they practiced real skills against a real (but safe) aggressor. That aggressor is you.

Every strike you take, every scenario you support, helps someone transform fear into strength. Be the power that helps others find their own.

Join IMPACT as a suited instructor and turn safety into strength - one scenario at a time.
