In this five-hour program, participants learn how to handle common safety concerns of college women. The emphasis is not on restrictions or rules, but rather skills and choices.
In IMPACT for College Women, you will increase:
Your self-assurance when entering new situations and meeting new people.
Your ability to figure out what to say or do when you are uncomfortable.
Your skills in communicating effectively.
Your physical and verbal confidence.
The program includes:
Discussions about the situations college women commonly face.
Verbal skills that give you the opportunity to practice standing up for yourself firmly and assertively when faced with unwanted interactions.
Physical self-defense skills taught in a supportive, success-based class. You will have the opportunity to practice in simulated scenarios with a padded mock assailant playing the role of the aggressor and a personal coach. This scenario-based training allows for the skills to pattern into your body so that you can use them even when frightened or startled.
What participants say about our programs:
"I am walking out of this IMPACT class, inspired and ready to take on the world. No longer do I doubt my ability to defend myself."
"It was very fun, and now I'm more confident."
What are the physical and emotional well-being requirements to take an IMPACT program?
If you have a temporary injury or condition, such as pregnancy, healing from surgery, or a sprained limb, wait to take the class until you no longer have this injury or condition.
If you have a chronic condition, please let us know about it and we will work with you (and in consultation with your health professional) to make it possible for you to take the course. We encourage you to register.
If you have been sexually assaulted, consider waiting 6-12 months before taking an IMPACT course. A good wait time depends of course on you and your situation, so please talk to us about what will work for you.
